In modern times, Kagome Higurashi, a junior high school student, is dragged into the Bone Eater's Well by Mistress Centipede, a demon.

She escapes and emerges in the past, 50 years after InuYasha was sealed to the tree. Mistress Centipede attacks again, ripping the jewel from Kagome's body. Kagome resurrects InuYasha by removing the arrow. InuYasha kills Mistress Centipede. Then he starts to attack Kagome to get the jewel. Kaede identifies Kagome as Kikyo's re-incarnation. Kaede puts a necklace on InuYasha that send him crashing into the ground when Kagome says "sit".

A carrion-crow demon steals the jewel from Kagome. InuYasha and Kagome chase after it, and Kagome shoots the crow with an arrow. The arrow shatters the jewel, scattering hundreds of shards all over Japan.

Volume Summary:

Kagome and InuYasha return to the Feudal era and discover that Yura has decapitated a group of rogue samurai. Yura seizes InuYasha with the hair she controls and begins taunting him with insults. Kagome's sacred arrow ruptures Yura's "nest", a giant hair ball containing the heads (or skulls) of the people whose hair she is manipulating. Yura tries to incinerate Kagome (who is saved by InuYasha's cloak). InuYasha and Yura wound each other severely, but neither is disabled. Kagome uses her arrow to break a skull which emits hairs which lead to Yura's hands. Yura tries desperately to stop Kagome, but Kagome then breaks a comb that is inside the skull. Yura then dissolves to nothing — her soul was in the comb. Kagome recovers the jewel shard that Yura stole; and InuYasha calls her by her name for the first time indicating that he is beginning to accept her. InuYasha's wounds from his battle with Yura heal rapidly and completely.

Sesshomaru and Jaken are searching for the grave of the father of InuYasha and Sesshomaru which contains Tessaiga. InuYasha's (dead, but resurrected) human mother appears to him and is being held hostage by Sesshomaru who demands to know where the grave site is. InuYasha does not know and they begin to fight. Kagome discovers that InuYasha's "mother" is actually an illusion created by a demon. The demon extracts a clue from InuYasha's subconscious. Kagome destroys the illusion. Sesshomaru combines the clue with one of his own and deduces that a portal to the grave is in one of InuYasha's eyes. He rips out InuYasha's eye and opens the portal. Sesshomaru, Jaken, Kagome, and InuYasha pass through the portal. They discover Tessaiga inside the skeleton of InuYasha's father. Sesshomaru is unable to grasp Tessaiga because it is spelled to repel full-demons. InuYasha can grasp it, but not withdraw it from the stone in which it is fixed. Kagome accidentally withdraws it from the stone, then gives it to InuYasha. Sesshomaru tries to kill them with violence and poison. InuYasha is only able to use Tessaiga's powers after he promises to save Kagome. Then he cuts Sesshomaru's arm off. Sesshomaru retreats; and they all leave the grave site. Kagome figures out that Tessaiga only works when it is used to protect a human.

Volume summary:

Kagome and InuYasha meet Takeda Nobunaga, an accident-prone idiot who is on his way to rescue princess Takeda Tsuyu. The Takeda clan heard that her husband was possessed by a demon. That lord's soldiers have been kidnapping all the young women in the neighborhood and taking them to his castle where they disappear. Everyone at the castle is under a sleeping spell, except the lord who is indeed possessed by a frog-demon. InuYasha wants to just kill the demon and lord together, but Tsuyu and Nobunaga insist that lord be saved. The kidnapped women are found inside giant frog's eggs where they sleep until their souls can be eaten by the frog-demon. Kagome uses an improvised flame-thrower made from a can of hair-spray to drive the demon out of the lord. InuYasha kills the demon and recovers its jewel shard. The women are liberated from the eggs. Nobunaga leaves relieved to have saved Tsuyu, but disappointed that she chose to stay with her husband instead of going with him.

Kagome returns to modern times. A woman approaches the Higurashi shrine to have a flesh-eating Noh mask exorcised. Just before she arrives, the mask escapes and takes over her body. The mask's body is disintegrating and it tries to compensate by eating more and more people, leaving behind a bloody mess. The mask attacks Kagome to try to get her jewel shards. She runs away and sends Sota to the well to summon InuYasha. InuYasha follows them and destroys the mask. They recover the jewel shard which was animating the mask.

Back in the Feudal era, Shippo appears and steals Kagome's jewel shards. He wants to use them to trap the Thunder Brothers Hiten and Manten who killed Shippo's father for a jewel shard. Shippo traps InuYasha's hands under a statue. Manten senses that Shippo has some shards and goes after him. Kagome shoots Manten through the nose.

Manten takes Kagome captive — he plans to boil her to make hair-potion. Shippo frees InuYasha so that he can save Kagome. Manten is about to kill Kagome so that he can leave to search for jewel shards with Hiten, but Kagome tells them that InuYasha will ransom her with jewel shards because he loves her. All three of them go looking for InuYasha and find him. He denies loving Kagome, but Hiten and InuYasha start fighting over the jewel shards. Manten starts to intervene on Hiten's side, but Kagome and Shippo attack Manten. Manten is about to kill them when InuYasha throws Tessaiga at him, skewering and killing him. Hiten is further enraged and grief-stricken. He eats Manten's heart to incorporate Manten's demonic powers into himself. He attacks InuYasha who defends himself with Tessaiga's scabbard. Kagome (with Shippo's help) shoots Hiten's flying wheels, grounding him. Hiten tries to incinerate Kagome and Shippo and appears to have succeeded. InuYasha slices him in two with Tessaiga. InuYasha asks Kagome's "ghost" not to leave, but she is actually alive. They add the Thunder brother's five jewel shards to their collection.

While InuYasha is having Tessaiga's scabbard repaired, Kagome returns to modern times. She sees the ghost of a girl, Mayu, who is playing cruel tricks on people and trying to hurt them. Mayu died in a fire (which she caused by carelessness) which injured her brother and mother whom she mistakenly blames for her death. Mayu tries to kill her brother and Kagome. InuYasha arrives and saves them. The soul piper demon (Tatari Mokke) decides to drag Mayu to Hell to become an evil spirit. Kagome insists on trying to save Mayu. So Kagome and InuYasha follow the demon and Mayu to the apartment where she died and will enter Hell. Kagome grabs Mayu just as she is being dragged down into Hell. Kagome tells Mayu that her mother loves her and they should make up. Mayu agrees and is released. Mayu and her mother forgive each other and Mayu becomes a good spirit, ascending to Heaven.

Nazuna is chased off of a cliff by a spider-head demon and falls into the arms of InuYasha. Kagome, InuYasha, Shippo, and Myoga accompany her to her master's temple. He invites them to stay the night because the area is over-run by spider-heads. During the night the spider-heads break through the temple's barrier and attack. InuYasha loses his demonic powers because it is the night of the new moon. Shippo burns the webs with fox-fire and they escape from the temple, but Nazuna's master is still captive. Also Kagome left her jewel shards behind in their rush. InuYasha and Shippo go back for the jewel shards. Nazuna's master turns out to be the leader of the spider-heads and injects InuYasha with spider venom. Kagome and Nazuna rescue InuYasha and they hide in another room, sealing the door with Tessaiga. Myoga sucks out the venom. While the others are sleeping the master tricks Nazuna into opening the door and he swallows the jewel shards becoming much more powerful. He is trying to kill InuYasha, but the Sun rises and InuYasha regains his powers. Kagome points out where the shards are inside the master and InuYasha rips them out. The master dies. The jewels shards have fused together in to one large shard inside him.

The ogress Urasue robs Kikyo's grave. InuYasha's group and Kaede go after her. Urasue re-creates Kikyo's body, but her soul does not return to it. Urasue realizes that the soul is in Kagome's body and takes her captive. Just as the others arrive, Urasue drives the soul out of Kagome's body into Kikyo's (when InuYasha utters Kikyo's name). Kikyo kills Urasue. She starts to try to kill InuYasha (because she thinks he killed her).

InuYasha tries to prevent her from going off of a cliff into the river, but Kikyo breaks away from him and is seemingly destroyed. Actually she survives even as Kagome revives.

Miroku, a lecherous and thieving monk, sees Kagome bathing and notices her large jewel shard. He recruits Hachiemon, a racoon-dog demon, to help him and they steal the shard and Kagome's bicycle. Kagome and InuYasha find him in a town and they run out of the town to fight away from the town's people. Miroku uses his wind tunnel against InuYasha. Kagome leaps between them to force him to stop (or kill her which she infers he will not) and thus saves InuYasha. Miroku fondles Kagome's bottom (to her dismay) and then tells them his life story. He identifies Naraku (while disguised as InuYasha) as the killer of Kikyo. They decide to work together to hunt Naraku and collect jewel shards.

They encounter a painter who can create demons from his paintings of Hell (he has a jewel shard in his ink). He fights with InuYasha. When he gets a cut and spills ink on himself, the ink dissolves him. Kagome picks up the tainted jewel shard, purifying it in the process. Miroku agrees that she can keep the shard.

Naraku claims that Sesshomaru will be able to wield Tessaiga with this arm. He also lends Sesshomaru a hive of saimyosho to counter Miroku's wind tunnel. Sesshomaru finds InuYasha and his friends. He knocks Tessaiga out of InuYasha's hand while fighting and then seizes it with his new arm. Sesshomaru sics a giant demon on InuYasha's group. Miroku starts to suck it into his wind tunnel, but Sesshomaru releases the saimyosho who sting Miroku, forcing him to stop. Sesshomaru is about to kill InuYasha with Tessaiga, but Kagome shoots it with a sacred arrow causing it to lose its demonic powers temporarily. As the fighting continues, InuYasha closes with Sesshomaru and in their embrace, he tears off part of Sesshomaru's new arm and takes back Tessaiga. Tessaiga regains its powers and Sesshomaru is forced to flee. Sesshomaru has to remove the remainder of the arm because it is turning against him. Naraku shows up and explains that that was because he added something to allow him to retrieve his jewel shard. Sesshomaru kills "Naraku", but it is just a demon puppet.

InuYasha, fearing for Kagome's safety, takes away her jewel shard and throws her down the bone-eater's well, trapping her in modern times. Just to be sure that she cannot return, he stuffs a tree in the well. Kaede explains about Naraku's origins as Onigumo. Royakan appears and begins fighting with InuYasha. After Royakan is driven off, Naraku gives him a jewel shard and a plant which will kill Royakan unless he kills InuYasha. Royakan's wolves are about to kill Shippo as he stands near the well.

Kagome becomes angry and unconsciously starts to pull their shared soul back from Kikyo who is forced to flee. InuYasha frees Kagome. Kikyo visits Kaede who tells her about Naraku's machinations. Volume Summary:

"Peach man" eats people and peaches. He lives on the side of a mountain. He throws the remains of his victims down to a tree by the side of the river at the base of the mountain. The tree consumes the remains and produces fruits which look like human heads. Some of the fruits float down river and are discovered by InuYasha's group. InuYasha goes ahead, hoping to finish before the night of the new Moon. Peach man's magic blocks Tessaiga and shrinks InuYasha. Peach man swallows him. Shippo lifts the others up to peach man's home where they find a shrunken garden with little men in it. They fall into it and shrink. Peach man finds Kagome's jewel shard and puts it into his navel. Meanwhile, in peach man's stomach, InuYasha loses his demonic powers just as he is trying to cut through the stomach lining. InuYasha uses Tessaiga's scabbard to call to Tessaiga and it stabs peach man in his belly, but bounces off. Nonetheless, it causes peach man to vomit out InuYasha who then regains his full size. InuYasha attacks peach man again, but peach man jumps and lands on top of InuYasha, flattening him. InuYasha awakes entangled in a thorn bush to hear peach man planning to pickle him for later consumption. Peach man grabs Kagome from his garden, planning to eat her at her full size. Miroku and Shippo have escaped hanging onto peach man's sleeve. Miroku uses his wind tunnel to help InuYasha untangle himself. Kagome awakes while she is being boiled alive in sake. InuYasha breaks into the kitchen and sees Kagome naked. He gives her his cloak to cover herself. They find peach man's mentor, a sage who regrets his actions, but is powerless to stop him since he has been converted to a plant. Peach man acquired all of his mentor's powers by eating him, except the secret of longevity which is why he preserved his mentor's head. As peach man and InuYasha battle, the mentor changes himself into a bow to allow Kagome to shoot a sacred arrow at peach man. She shoots him, knocking out the jewel shard which has made peach man much stronger. As peach man turns on her, InuYasha knocks him out the window and falls after him. Peach man is killed by his fall, but InuYasha lands in the tree and is saved.

Sango exterminates a demon and takes its jewel shard as payment. InuYasha's group hears of this and goes looking for her. Naraku manipulates Sango's brother Kohaku into killing his relatives as they exterminate a demon. He sends his demons to kill the rest of the demon-exterminators and take their jewel shards. Naraku tricks Sango into believing that InuYasha is responsible for the murders.

Volume Summary:

InuYasha's group finds that the village of the demon-exterminators has been wiped out. Myoga shows them the nearby cave containing the ancient mummified remains of Midoriko and the (Naraku-like) demon with which she was fighting when they died. Sango and Naraku (actually his demon puppet) are looking for InuYasha to kill him. Sango is weak from her injuries and accepts a jewel shard in her back from Naraku. Sango attacks InuYasha. He tries to kill Naraku, but Sango insists that he fight her first. Naraku steals Kagome's jewel shard and flees. Sango has become suspicious of him because he showed his demonic nature during the fighting, so she sends Kirara after him. InuYasha saves Sango from one of her own poison dust attacks, but she still thinks it is a trick and stabs him. She faints from loss of blood and awakens while being carried on InuYasha's back as he chases after Naraku. Naraku confesses that he killed Sango's relatives to steal their jewel shards. Sango advises Miroku and InuYasha on how to destroy the demon puppet. InuYasha's group buries the villagers. Sango explains that the jewel was formed during the death-struggle of Midoriko and the demon from their souls. Sango decides to join InuYasha's group as the best way to find Naraku and get revenge.

Boys are being sacrificed to a water god. The headman's son (who was supposed to be the sacrifice but was replaced) pays InuYasha's group to destroy the water god. The god's attendants are brushed aside, but the god himself is armed with the Amakoi Halberd which is stronger than Tessaiga. Kagome wounds the god with a sacred arrow. Some water sprites tell Miroku that the water god is an impostor; the real god is sealed up in a cave. As InuYasha continues to fight with the impostor, the real water god is freed by Miroku and Sango.

Volume Summary:

InuYasha is struggling for breath as he fights the impostor water god. The real water god opens the waters where they are fighting to help InuYasha. The impostor takes to the air and uses the Amakoi halberd to start waterspouts to destroy the village. As Sango (on Kirara) fights with the impostor, InuYasha climbs up his back and grabs the Amakoi, ripping off the imposter's arm. The impostor reverts to his true form — a snake. The water god says that she can stop the waterspouts, if the Amakoi is returned to her. The headman's son tries to get it and flounders in the water. InuYasha cuts the impostor in half, then saves the headman's son. Miroku sucks the remains of the impostor into his wind tunnel. The water god uses the Amakoi to stop the bad weather.

While Sango exterminates a demon at another village, Miroku wanders off with an attractive woman. The woman turns out to be a mantis demon in disguise who plans to eat Miroku. Miroku vanquishes it with his wind tunnel, but his hand is wounded and the tunnel widened in the process. He secretly leaves the group to visit his foster father, Mushin, who can repair the wound. Naraku hears of this and plans an attack on Mushin and Miroku. Naraku sends a demon puppet to create a diversion and lead the group away from Miroku. An urn grub possesses Mushin and causes him to attack Miroku while he is anesthetized. Miroku escapes to his father's grave site and is besieged by demons. Hachi seeks out InuYasha's group and tells them what is happening. They arrive just in time to save Miroku. InuYasha fights with Mushin. Miroku is forced to use his wind tunnel to save himself and InuYasha from Naraku's demons; thus further injuring it. InuYasha used Tessaiga to slay a hundred of the demons. Sango kills the urn keeper. Kagome draws the urn grub out of Mushin into the urn. Mushin repairs Miroku's hand as far as he can, but the wind tunnel is permanently widened.

Naraku, concerned by InuYasha's increasing power, resurrects Kohaku with a jewel shard in his back and sends him to destroy a village. Sango follows Kohaku to a meeting with Naraku. Naraku demands that Sango get Tessaiga for him, or else he will destroy Kohaku. Next evening, Kohaku and Naraku's demons attack InuYasha. To keep Kohaku from killing himself by removing the jewel shard, Sango steals Tessaiga and takes it to Naraku.

Volume Summary:

As Sango hands the sword to Naraku, she attacks him with a hidden knife. As Naraku evades her attack, his disguise comes off revealing that he is Hitomi Kagewaki, the young master of the castle. Kirara bites Naraku and is severely poisoned by his flesh. Naraku orders Kohaku to kill Sango. She is wounded but does not fight back, merely clinching him. InuYasha's group arrives and attacks Naraku, but he dissolves into poisonous vapors. Miroku tries to sacrifice himself to save them by opening his wind tunnel to suck in the vapors, but InuYasha stops him. They are dying from the vapors, when Kagome senses a jewel shard behind a wall and tells InuYasha to break through it. The real Naraku is hiding behind the wall. Kagome purifies the vapors and destroys most of Naraku's body with her sacred arrow. Kohaku escapes with Naraku's head. InuYasha recovers Tessaiga. Sango wants to leave the group to avoid having to betray them again, but the others will not allow it.

InuYasha and Kagome leave Kirara and Sango in the care of Miroku and Shippo while they look for herbs to counteract the poison. Villagers are being eaten, and the villagers hold Jinenji, a half-demon, responsible without proof. InuYasha confronts Jinenji and realizes that he is innocent. InuYasha tells the villagers to wait while he searches for the real culprit. The villagers attack Jinenji, his mother, and Kagome while InuYasha is away. The villagers are attacked from behind by the man-eating demon and its offspring. Kagome wounds it with an arrow, but it knocks her down with its tail. As it is about to eat her, Jinenji punches it in the mouth and grapples with it. InuYasha returns and saves the villagers by killing the demon's offspring. Jinenji rips the demon apart. The villagers apologize. Jinenji gives them healing herbs. The villagers help to repair the damage to Jinenji's field. InuYasha talks a little about being persecuted in his youth.

Kikyo is healing the sick when soldiers arrive and take her to Naraku. She realizes that only his head is alive and says she can do nothing for him. He imprisons her, but she escapes and goes to investigate an evil aura. InuYasha's group also goes to investigate it and InuYasha gets into a fight with a giant demon. It is a composite of hundreds of demons trapped by Naraku's spells. Miroku warns InuYasha not to kill it, or else he will absorb it and become part of Naraku's new body. Kikyo arrives and falls into the pit where Naraku's new body is being created.

Volume Summary:

InuYasha is fighting the imp (the composite demon which will become Naraku's new body) to protect Kikyo and himself. Kagome arrives and jumps in to save Kikyo, thinking that this will calm InuYasha down. Kikyo tells her that this will make InuYasha lose his reason. Kikyo shoots an arrow which breaks Naraku's spell which is holding the imp in the pit. It exits drawing Kikyo, Kagome, and InuYasha after it. The imp attacks Naraku for imprisoning it, but is absorbed into him, becoming his new body. InuYasha tries to attack Naraku, but is blocked by a barrier. Naraku leaves taking Kikyo with him. At Naraku's castle, Kikyo and Naraku discuss their past.

InuYasha's group are caught in nightmarish illusions created by Naraku. Only Kagome is immune. Kagome shoots Naraku, but it is just a demon puppet. The ground opens up beneath Kagome. She is hanging on by some vines. Kikyo finishes destroying the demon puppet, and tells Kagome that Kagome is one who Naraku fears most. InuYasha's concern for Kagome helps him to break free from the illusion in which he was trapped. He rescues Miroku who rescues Sango. Kikyo steals Kagome's jewel shard and tells her that only one of them (Kikyo and Kagome) is needed as she allows her to fall into the sinkhole. InuYasha grabs Kagome just in time. Kikyo escapes, goes to Naraku and gives him the jewel shard. Kikyo is planning to let Naraku collect the entire jewel and then kill him for it.

Sesshomaru finds that Totosai has fled from his home to avoid him. InuYasha is surprised by Totosai who attacks him with a hammer. Then he blocks Tessaiga with a piece of leather. Totosai says he is testing InuYasha and will destroy Tessaiga (which Totosai made) if InuYasha is unworthy. Sesshomaru arrives and threatens to kill Totosai for failing to make a sword like Tessaiga for him. InuYasha and Sesshomaru fight. Totosai interrupts the fight by breathing fire and explains that he gave Tenseiga to Sesshomaru and that it is superior to Tessaiga. Sesshomaru calls Tenseiga a mere slab. Totosai breaks the ground open with his hammer releasing lava. InuYasha's group escapes with Totosai. Sesshomaru demonstrates to Jaken that he cannot kill him with Tenseiga which is a sword of healing. Totosai leaves them, then returns chased by Sesshomaru. InuYasha and Sesshomaru fight again. Sesshomaru is using the arm of a dragon to fend off Tessaiga. After hearing about the wind-scar technique of Tessaiga, InuYasha figures out how to use it.

Volume Summary:

While partially blinded by Sesshomaru's poison, InuYasha "smells" the scar of the wind and hits Sesshomaru with a new attack, the wind-scar. There is a flash of light, and Sesshomaru disappears, apparently destroyed. Toto-sai decides that InuYasha is worthy of Tessaiga after all and hones the blade. Toto-sai says that Tenseiga chose to save Sesshomaru, to his surprise. Some distance away, Sesshomaru awakes paralyzed by his wounds, but alive. A little girl, Rin, finds him, dumps water on his head, and offers him food which he rejects. Rin is beaten by villagers for stealing fish. Sesshomaru asks what happened to her, but she just smiles.

Rin's village is attacked by Koga's wolves. Koga arrives and kills a man for a jewel shard. Rin flees, but is run down and killed by the wolves who also eat the villagers. Sesshomaru smells blood, finds Rin's body in the forest, and uses Tenseiga to resurrect her. InuYasha's group arrives at the village and kill some of the wolves. The others escape and howl for Koga. Koga returns and fights InuYasha. Kagome tells InuYasha that Koga has jewel shards in both legs and one arm. InuYasha is about to use the wind-scar on Koga when Koga senses danger and retreats. InuYasha's group is pursuing them when they are ambushed and Koga kidnaps Kagome and Shippo. As InuYasha, Miroku, and Sango follow they are attacked by harpies (giant demons - half man, half bird). Shippo leaves a trail of magic mushrooms which show the path Koga took. Koga tells Kagome that he will prevent the wolf-demons from eating her and Shippo, if she helps him find jewel shards, especially a shard held by the King of the harpies who are mortal enemies of the wolf-demons. Then he declares her to be his mate even though she rejects him. Kagome shows Koga where the harpy King's jewel shard is — in the roof of his mouth. Then she uses a sacred arrow to save one of Koga's friends as the wolf-demons and harpies fight. InuYasha's group arrives and help to destroy the harpies, but the King escapes. Then Koga and InuYasha start to fight over Kagome. The King returns and attacks Koga ripping the shard from his arm and severely wounding him. InuYasha destroys the King with the wind-scar and takes his jewel shards. InuYasha is about to kill Koga for his two remaining shards when Kagome stops him with "sit". Koga's friends carry him away over his protestations. Kagome and InuYasha argue and she returns home to modern Tokyo.

Volume Summary:

In modern Tokyo, Kagome's friends push her to date Hojo. When she resists, they accuse her of having another boyfriend and demand to know about him. When she finally talks about InuYasha, they advise her to dump this violent, selfish, two-timing chump. Kagome tries to defend him, so her friends conclude that she loves him. InuYasha enters Kagome's room through the window and Sota surprises him there. Sota says that Kagome was in a really bad mood, so InuYasha tells Sota to keep his visit secret and goes back to the past. Kagome studies for her exams, then sleeps. InuYasha comes again and watches her sleep, then runs away when her alarm clock goes off. Kagome returns to the past and is about to apologize (insincerely) to InuYasha when he apologizes to her for breaking her alarm clock.

InuYasha's group searches for a bear that became a man-eater after a jewel shard became embedded in its forehead. As they are about to take it down, Saimyosho appear, sting the bear, and take its jewel shard. InuYasha's group follow the Saimyosho. Koga's comrades have heard of a castle with a stash of jewel shards and raid it without him. Kagura is there and kills them. Koga is given a fake and poisonous jewel shard, and summoned to help his comrades. InuYasha's group arrives at the castle and Kagura has the corpses of the wolf-demons attack InuYasha so that he is covered with their blood. Koga arrives and concludes that InuYasha killed them. Koga and InuYasha fight. Miroku and Sango destroy Naraku's demon puppet. Koga seems to kill InuYasha. Then Kagura has the corpses attack Koga. Koga realizes that he was tricked, but collapses from the poison. InuYasha revives and tries to use the wind-scar against Kagura, but cannot because her control of the wind is too great. Kagome shoots an arrow that temporarily breaks Kagura's control, allowing InuYasha to use the wind-scar against her. Kagura's kimono is ripped away showing the spider on her back (like Naraku's). She escapes. Because of the spider mark and her Naraku-like odor, they conclude that she is a detachment of Naraku. Koga is dying from the poison. Kagome uses an arrow to dig the fake shard out of his arm. Koga immediately revives and flees. Kagura confronts Naraku and accuses him of endangering her by not telling her about Tessaiga's powers. Naraku threatens to kill her.

Koharu, a 14 year-old girl who loves Miroku, is hiding from some men who had enslaved her. They mistake Sango for Koharu starting a fight which they quickly lose. Koharu is overjoyed to see Miroku after his three year absence. Kagome and Sango suspect him of having carnal knowledge of Koharu when she was 11 and are horrified. Miroku denies it. Koharu wants to join InuYasha's group to be with Miroku, but he says that it would be too dangerous for her. Sango begins to feel jealous. They take Koharu to another village where she will be well treated instead of being a slave. Before they can leave, Kanna, another detachment of Naraku, arrives and steals the souls of the villagers with her mirror. Sango throws her boomerang at Kanna, but Kanna's mirror bounces it back and it hits Sango, knocking her out. Koharu, under Kanna's control, grabs Kagome and Kanna tries to steal Kagome's soul. Meanwhile, the villagers are fighting with InuYasha, and Kagura arrives.
